Blossoms blooming, heads all empty and I don't care

How's about something pretty from my walk home after getting a tasty frappe this afternoon?

Gerbera

This is the last of the three Gerbera plants I got for my birthday. The light in our living room is pretty awesome in the middle of the afternoon....when it's sunny, at least!

Yeah they were all yellow

This is the AH-mazingly beautiful tree that's right outside the Wollaston T Station. It makes me happy to see it every day when I'm on my way home from work.

Blossoms and Blue Sky

To make up for that all the horribly depressing rain we've had lately, we're in the midst of a string of sunny, 60 degree days. This is from one of the trees along the Rose Kennedy Greenway near work. We haven't got a TON of blossoms yet, but they're definitely starting!

Check it out bigger and better!

As seen on TV

Becky and I were making fun of all the crazy ads we saw on TV while borrowing cable from her BIL last week, but it turns out I really do NEED an Aqua Globe for my plant at work so it doesn't look like this every time I get back from vacation! Only they come in sets of 4, and I only want 2.

ETA: Turns out CVS sells them in 2 packs, so I think I'll pick some up after all!

Flowery Prettyness

I actually meant to post a 10 on Tuesday yesterday with my picture and forgot, so now you can have 10 on Wednesday (and probably more interesting since I've had an extra day to ponder!).

1. I'm delayed in posting a photo of these flowers. Emily sent them last week and they're super pretty - thanks Em! When I put them in a vase I took a few out and put them in a bud vase that went in the bathroom. This morning I re-woke up (I may or may not have been "resting" on the couch because I was still sleepy after the alarm went off) because of the very loud sound of glass crashing on a tile floor. Guess what kitten was behind that?

2. When my boss, who grew up in Minnesota, complains about how cold it is outside I feel like that means I'm justified in complaining as much as I want.

3. IT IS FREEZING OUT TODAY.

4. I had lunch with Lisa today - she's here from Chicago for the week - and it made me really miss having lunch with her and Ros. To all my friends that moved away in the last 6 months: you can come back any time now.

5. This afternoon one of my fav associates (not that we in HR have fav associates) was in the office today for a meeting and we got to catch up. However, he was wearing so much cologne that I'm pretty sure he is what caused the most sudden, piercing headache I've ever had.

6. Three Excedrin Tension is a lot of caffeine.

7. It's a bit last minute, but we finally have our Thanksgiving plans sorted out!

8. In exciting XBox 360 news, as of today you can stream Netflix movies through it. Even more exciting, I thought we'd only get to stream 15 hours of movies/month, but we really have unlimited streaming. If only I were independently wealthy and could sit in pajamas and watch streaming Netflix all day. That would be the life!

9. I'm totally loving American Boy by Estelle (featuring Kanye) lately. Fav lyrics: Don't like his baggy jeans but I might like what's underneath them.

10. I think there should be a rule that whenever the temperature is below freezing, everyone works from home.

Week 7 - Friday I'm in Love

It's Friday, I'm in Love with....

1. The red cups are here! I'm so excited for the holidays it's a bit ridiculous. I already bought a mini Christmas tree and ornaments for work. I'm also going to see The Nutcracker and A Christmas Carol. I'm contemplating Boston Pops tickets.

2. Flowers from Emily! Most of them are in a vase on the table, but this rose and one of the astromeria (I think that's what they're called? Or something like that?) are currently cheering up the top of our toilet tank.

3. Useful wedding favors! The glass is from Amanda & Aaron's wedding, the cocktail shaker from Joe & Liza's. The cocktail shaker is the only one we own, so it gets a decent amount of use. I really appreciate when people give out wedding favors that are actually useful and not just something that will take up space I don't have.

Friday I'm in Love

This Friday, I'm in Love with...

1. CHAMP! She's earning new nicknames lately: piggy pants, destructo kitty, tornado kitty. The other day she was running around so crazy that she got tangled in Pete's earphone cords that were dangling from the table, and the cord snapped in half. Yeah. Destructo kitty in the house. She has also started the lovely new habit of arriving at the foot of the bed around 6 AM and starting a wrestling match with Barley. EVERY MORNING.

2. My hobbit jade plant. I bought this a few months back because I've wanted a jade plant for a long time, and it's been thriving. I've been told that the red tips mean the plant is happy. It's about double the size it was when I first got it, and if I can keep the cats out of it's pot, it just might keep growing and end up ginormous.

3. My new Bungalow 360 Owl Bag (love them!). I wanted a bigger bag that I could fit lunch, a water bottle, and my school books in, and I'd had my eye on this one for a while. I finally caved and bought it a week ago. I do not regret this one iota.

Stars

I found these in the Arboretum on my walk. I love them. I even loved them when I only saw the tree with the closed blossoms. Then I saw the tree with the open ones and I was so excited I gasped. I would like to have one of these trees in my yard. When I have a yard.

Went out to an alumni event at the Commander's Mansion tonight. I got there early, so I headed out into the overcast, slightly wet evening to take some photos and explore the grounds a bit. They have this awesome trellis (is it still called a trellis if it's a free standing structure? I have no idea) with grapes growing over it. I think it would be a totally fun spot for portraits.

Flower ID please!

We ran past these pretty flowers on the bike path and I thought "those would like nice in my little bud vase!" so I picked some on the way back. Pete asked me what they were and I said "I have no idea, I need to ask our moms for an ID", so here they are. They were growing on a viney kind of plant, up the fence - but the flowers were on stalks that stuck out from the vines. I love them, whatever they are. Hopefully they aren't native wildflowers that are illegal to pick.

AGAIN!

Big Tom is blossoming AGAIN! I love it. I was at a garden place the other day and asked the woman what kind of plant I could put in my bathroom that gets no natural light, very little indirect light, and only has the light turned on a few hours a day. She told me Peace Lilly. I disagree. Big Tom was a piddly little thing until I took him to the office, and he absolutely LOVES getting light for 12-ish hours a day and has never grown so much, and has flowered like 6 times in the last year, but never once flowered in the two years before that. His brother, Tiny Tim, was miserable in the indirect/low light at our old apartment, but is totally thriving now that he's living in the partial sun/direct light of the window at our new place. I don't believe anyone that says these plants like low light.
